  • Melt Into Switzerland’s Cheesiest Festival This September

In the quiet village of Le Châble , just down the valley from the glitz of Verbier, a celebration of all things cheese, and particularly Raclette AOP, takes over the streets in one of Switzerland’s most beloved gastronomic and cultural events - Bagnes Capitale de la Raclette , on from the 20–21 September 2025 . This is no modest local market. Over 15,000 cheese lovers  and dozens of artisanal producers  from the Bagnes and Entremont  regions arrive armed with wheels of Raclette aged to perfection - nutty, creamy, and melting into the signature golden ribbons that have made Swiss cheese a legend. The festival mixes together Alpine heritage, tradition, and storytelling , with the Raclette serving as a kind of edible ambassador. The true showstopper arrives on Sunday - the Parade of the ‘Reines’ , where the horned Hérens cows (icons of Swiss mountain life) march through the village. These black, broad-chested cows are symbols of status, strength, and legacy in the Valais region. Decorated with flowered headdresses and ceremonial bells, their procession down from the alpine pastures is both symbolic and celebratory, marking the shift from summer’s high pastures to the lower winter grounds. While most visitors come for the cheese, they stay for the atmosphere. There are open-air Raclette grills , cheese pairing workshops , local craft stalls , and even cultural talks  on dairy farming and Valaisan folklore. Getting There Looking to make a weekend of it? A seven-night stay at A Larze , a cosy guesthouse that blends rustic charm with minimalist Swiss design, is available from £437 total  (based on two sharing an economy room, arriving 19 September 2025 ). Flights and transfers are not included, but with Geneva just a train ride away, getting there is half the adventure. For more info visit verbier.ch .

  • Where to Celebrate Bastille Day - Top 5 Fireworks Shows in France

Who doesn't like a good, bright and loud firework show on the 14th of July, celebrating the French National Day - you know, the day when back in 1789 the French took to the streets to behead their Kings and Queens? Yeah, that. France is wide, and has so many different kind of landscapes, both natural and urban. So how are you supposed to pick which town to celebrate Bastille Day in? We have got you! We've put together a Top 5 of the best firework shows in France , from the capital to the French Riviera and rural Brittany. Hang on to your socks, because it's a feisty one. Paris Of course, the French Capital holds its own fireworks-wise, with a breath-taking 40-minute-long show , where the Eiffel Tower looks like it's going up in flames, but in a good way. If you want to go to Champs Élysées or Champs de Mars to watch the show up close, that's fine. Just keep in mind that the the crowds are massive. Pro tip - In any viewpoint that's high enough for you to see the Eiffel Tower, you should also be able to enjoy the fireworks from afar. Montmarte is one of the most beautiful locations to watch the '14 Juillet' show, although it takes no less than 222 steps to get to. Make sure to get there before 11pm , as that is when the celebration begins. You'll get a breath-taking panoramic view of Paris, illuminated by the pyrotechnic show. Biarritz Besides the turquoise water and luxurious resorts, Biarritz is also known for its magnificent fireworks show on the 14th of July. If celebrating Bastille Day on the beach, Biarritz is the place to be. After the 20-minute show, starting at 10:45pm on "Biarritz Great Beach" , you can head to the Bodegas village to keep the party going. Cannes The French Riviera is a dream-destination all year long. Of course, Cannes is one of its brightest-shining jewel. In true Cannes Festival fashion, it's not one, two or three, but six stunning fireworks displays lighting up the beautiful Bay of Cannes as part of the Festival of Pyrotechnic Art. Talented firework artists from around the world compete on July 14. Starting at 10 p.m ., head to the waterfront to witness this breathtaking show that sets the bay aglow. Just keep in mind that if you want to stay in Cannes for the 14th of July, or anytime of year for that matter, you need a significant budget as it's one of France's most high-end destinations. Carcassonne If you're a history fiend, you've probably heard of Carcassonne, France's most famous medieval town. Do fireworks and French castles sound good to you? Then that's your pick. The firework display is set to start lighting up the Medieval City at 10:30pm, scheduled to go on for about 25 minutes. Étretat Last, but certainly not least, you can head to Normandy to celebrate Bastille Day in the most gorgeous setting. One might say the Étretat Cliffs are France's most famous cliffs, and they would be right. While the scenic landscape is breathtaking all year round, it truly comes alive on Bastille Day. Beware, for this one, the show takes place on the 13th of July , and not the 14th, at 11pm . You can watch it from the beach. Pro tip: to avoid the crowds, hike up to the chapel on Amont Cliff . You'll get a panoramic view from 80-meters high.

  • Paris Air Show - What to Expect at the World’s Biggest Aviation Event

The Paris Air Show , held at Le Bourget Airport , is  where new aircraft are revealed, major aerospace deals are signed, and some of the world’s most advanced flying machines take to the skies. Here's what to expect from one of France’s most high-powered events. Where and When The Paris Air Show  (officially known as the Salon International de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace ) takes place at Paris-Le Bourget Airport , roughly 30 minutes from the city centre by car or public transport. The next edition is scheduled from Monday June 16th-22nd, with the first 4 days reserved for trade professionals and the final 3 days, Friday through Sunday, open to the general public. Founded in 1909, it’s the oldest and largest air show in the world , and it continues to set the pace for aviation and aerospace technology. What You’ll See More than 2,000 exhibitors  from around the world come to showcase the latest in commercial aviation, military hardware, unmanned systems, satellites, space exploration tech, and the emerging field of sustainable air travel. The public show days are anchored by the daily flying displays , which include aerobatic manoeuvres by military jets, commercial airliners showing off agility you wouldn’t expect from planes that carry 300 passengers, and the occasional surprise guest, such as stealth fighters, cargo giants, or prototype electric aircraft. The Airbus A350 , Boeing 777X , Dassault Rafale , and Patrouille de France  (the French Air Force’s precision aerobatic team) are frequent headliners. On the ground, expect aircrafts parked across the tarmac, some open for walk-throughs, others purely for show. What's New The Paris Air Show also showcases what’s coming next. This is where hydrogen-powered aircraft prototypes  are revealed, urban air mobility vehicles  (yes, flying taxis) are tested, and space companies  pitch the next era of orbital exploration. Major manufacturers, Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, Dassault, Lockheed Martin, use the show to unveil new models and sign deals.  For the general public, many of these tech displays are hands-on. Interactive pavilions allow you to test virtual cockpit simulators, step inside 3D printed fuselage sections, and speak directly to engineers, astronauts, and designers. Tips for Visitors Arrive early : Security is tight and lines can be long. Get there at opening time if you want a good spot for the flight displays. Bring ear protection : Jet engines at full speed are no joke. If you're bringing kids, earmuffs are a must. Plan your route : The showground is huge. Check the programme ahead of time to prioritise flying displays, talks, and exhibitions. Dress for weather : Most of the event is outdoors, and June in Paris can swing from sun to rain. How to Get There From central Paris, you can reach Le Bourget  by RER B train to Le Bourget station , followed by a shuttle bus to the airport grounds. Taxis and rideshares are also widely available, but traffic near the site can be intense, especially on public days. Flying in from Ireland? Aer Lingus offers direct flights from Dublin to Paris Charles de Gaulle , with multiple daily departures. From CDG, Le Bourget is just a 20-minute drive, close enough to catch a morning flight and be at the show by lunch.
